O espaço cénico, desde a sua origem na Grécia, sempre foi um local de valores específicos ligados á cultura do meio em que se encontra inserido. O que com o passar do tempo sofreu sucessivas transformações, evoluindo até ao teatro contemporâneo como conhecemos hoje. Com isto, houve a necessidade de estudar as diferentes eras da história, de modo a perceber como é que a arquitetura do edifício teatral e do seu espaço cénico respondem às demandas da sociedade e da época em que se encontram, sendo então a arquitetura destes espaços influenciados, morfológica e tipologicamente adaptando-se ao meio em que estão inseridos. Com esta investigação, foram analisados três casos de referência, que se enquadravam no objetivo desta investigação, de modo a perceber as linhas de pensamento dos seus autores perante tais obras, de forma a serem aplicadas no caso de estudo. O caso prático deste trabalho, incidiu no edifício do Teatro Jordão em Guimarães. A proposta de intervenção consistiu numa conversão funcional, em que o edifício que funcionava exclusivamente como teatro, contendo um piso destinado a restaurante, é transformado numa escola de artes performativas, mantendo-se o auditório do teatro, apesar deste ser adaptado tanto às exigências contemporâneas, como à proposta e o meio em que está inserido. Com a análise realizada, tanto através da investigação como dos casos de referência, concluiu-se que o edifício teatral e o seu espaço cénico, a partir do século XVI, o surgir da tipologia de palco à italiana, influenciou fortemente o teatro, sofrendo sucessivas transformações evoluindo até aos dias de hoje. Já o teatro contemporâneo fica marcado pela pluralidade tipológica, sendo essa a ideia que foi implementada no caso de estudo.Abstract: This thesis work is focused on understanding the morphology and typology ofthe theater building and its scenic space, in order to perceive the principles to be followed by an architectural intervention in a building of this same character, which became obsolete due to the fact that it became something outdated today. The scenic space, since its origin in Greece, has always been a place of specific values linked to the culture of the environment in which it is inserted. What with the passage of time has undergone successive transformations, evolving into the contemporary theater as we know it today. With this, it was necessary to study the different eras of history, in order to understand how the architecture of the theater building and its scenic space respond to the demands of society and the time in which they are, and the architecture of these spaces influenced, morphologically and typologically adapting to the environment in which they are inserted. With this investigation, three reference cases were analyzed, which fit the objective of this investigation, in order to perceive the lines of thought of its authors before such works, in order to be applied in the case study. The practical case of this work, focused on the building of the Teatro Jordão in Guimarães. The intervention proposal consisted of a functional conversion, in which the building that operated exclusively as a theater, containing a floor for a restaurant, was transformed into a performing arts school, maintaining the auditorium of the theater, although it was adapted both to contemporary demands, as well as to the proposal and the environment in which it is inserted. With the analysis carried out, both through the investigation and the reference cases, it was concluded that the theater building and its scenic space, from the sixteenth century, the emergence of typology from italian stage, strongly influenced the theater, suffering successive transformations to the present day.
