Entende-se que o prefácio antecede e introduz um determinado texto, mas será que o discurso nele produzido está diretamente relacionado com esse mesmo texto? A escolha do prefaciador pode dever-se a vários fatores, desde a sugestão dada pelo autor da obra, a um conselho do editor, até impelida a um convite a um terceiro que, pela sua auctoritas na área, se revela um chamariz. O prefácio poderá ser incluído na matéria paratextual, no entanto, surge a problemática do sentido genérico de texto preambular, onde se podem incluir, para além do prefácio, os paratextos “prólogo”, “proémio”, “advertência”. Desta forma, torna-se imprescindível explicar, numa fase inicial, o sentido de texto preambular e especificar quais as propriedades do texto prefacial, definindo-o enquanto género. Na procura das respostas, dado que muitos prefácios passam despercebidos à maioria, surge, também, o objetivo de motivar, seduzir, cativar, persuadir e conquistar o leitor para a obra prefaciada. O que procuram os leitores dos prefácios? Uma possibilidade de lerem o que o autor não pode escrever? Ou até algo diferente do que ele diria? Os prefácios não têm as características de um resumo, pois neles encontramos transgressões às normas mas podem, no entanto, indicar o assunto, os objetivos e o contexto do texto principal. Apesar de não ser um objetivo pessoal ser autor de prefácios podem encontrar-se alguns que são realmente notáveis, onde o prefaciador se empenha para promover o texto prefaciado. No entanto, essa notabilidade na escrita do prefácio faz despoletar a questão que se prende com o “desafio autoral” e que se pode sobrepor ao que lhe foi solicitado, a escrita de um prefácio ao texto original, pois é o que o prefaciador escreve que vai servir de diálogo e de ponte entre o leitor e o autor e o assunto. E, ao escrever um prefácio, o prefaciador adquire um enorme poder e uma enorme responsabilidade para com o destinatário, que é o leitor do texto. Quanto ao corpus do trabalho, este será constituído por prefácios recolhidos de obras literárias em que uma das condições de análise será a da relação entre o prefaciador e o autor da obra e os objetivos do prefácio para com o leitor.This work is the result of a lot of research, reading and reflexion, in order to understand the path of the Portuguese Prefaces in the XXth and XXIst centuries. The Preface comes before and after a certain text, but is the discourse produced directly related with that same text? The Prefacer’s choice can be related with several factors, it can be a suggestion given by the author’s literary work, an editor’s choice or even an invitation to a third person that, because of his/her authority is a decoy. The Preface can be understood as paratextual, however it aroses a problem related with the generic meaning of a Preamble text, where one can include, besides the Preface the paratexts “Prologue”, “ Introduction”, “Warning”. So, it is crucial to explain, in the beginning, what is a Preamble text and specify what are its characteristics, defining it as a gender. In our searching for answers, because a lot of the Prefaces are sometimes little-known to the majority of people there is, also, the purpose of motivating, seducing, captivating, seducting and conquering the reader of the prefaced literary work. What do the researchers look for in the Prefaces? Could it be a possibility of reading what the author wasn’t able to write? Or even differently of what he/she would say? The Prefaces don’t have the same characteristics as a resumé because we find in them some transgressions to the conventions but they can, however, have the subject, the objectives and the context of the main text. Although it is not a personal objective to be an author of Prefaces we can read some remarkable ones where the Prefacer committes to promote the prefaced text. However, that remarkability in writing a preface brings a question related with the “copyright challenge” and that can overlap what was first asked, the writing of a preface to an original text, because it is what is written that will be the dialogue and the bridge between the reader and the author and the subject. And, by writing a preface, the author of the prefaces acquires a huge power and responsibility towards the recipient, that is the reader of the text.
