Resumo: This paper analyses the barriers to implementation of 5S methodologies in a multicultural team in a multinational jewellery company. Given the interdependent non hierarchical nature of the barriers identified, an analytical framework application was conducted by making use the conceptual framework for a systematic understanding of barriers during lean implementation developed by Puram, Sony, Antony, & Gurumurthy in 2021. With the framework application, it is possible to understand that lack of financial, technical, and human resources (barrier PH4), as well as lack of lean knowledge, expertise and training (barrier PS3) are the barriers that more negatively affect a successful 5S implementation given the high impact that they generate across other organisational barriers. However, the framework falls short in this specific application given the fact that the lack of communication generated due to different cultural settings seems to pose a significant barrier to 5S implementation
