The struggle for political survival from Alexander III to Antiochus I: actions and reactions of the póleis in the beginnings of the Hellenistic period

Resumo: This article seeks to address questions regarding the different options taken by some of the main Greek city‐states against the frequent Macedonian intervention during the early days of the Hellenistic period. Two examples have been selected for their emblematic status and for being illustrative of opposite responses to similar situations: the military Greek resistance against Alexander, with a special emphasis on the upheaval of Agis of Sparta; the political rise and subsequent acceptance of Antiochus I by the Ionian cities (on the coast of Asia Minor).

Los dos ejemplos seleccionados son los siguientes, por ser bastante emblemáticos y por presentar respuestas contrarias a situaciones semejantes: la resistencia militar griega contra Alejandro, con énfasis en la rebelión de Agis de Esparta; la ascensión política y posterior aceptación de Antíoco I por parte de las ciudades jonias (en la costa de Asia Menor).Cet article prétend discuter des questions liées aux différentes actions prises par quelques principales cités‐États grecques contre les fréquentes interventions macédoniennes, au début de la période hellénistique. Les deux exemples ont été choisis parce qu’ils sont très emblématiques et présentent des réponses différentes à des situations semblables : la résistance militaire grecque contre Alexandre et, en particulier, la révolte d’Agis de Sparte ; l’ascension politique et l’ultérieure acceptation d’Antiochos Ier par les cités ioniennes (sur la côte d’Asie Mineure).Este artigo pretende debater questões ligadas às diferentes ações tomadas por algumas das principais cidades‐Estado gregas contra as frequentes intervenções macedônicas nos primórdios do período helenístico.
