Porto e Vila Nova de Gaia num só concelho: reflexão a partir da recente evolução demográfica e habitacional da área metropolitana do Porto

A partir da análise das estatísticas da população e da habitação constantes nos censos para os concelhos da Área Metropolitana do Porto, AMP, de 1991 e de 2001, o artigo faz a descrição da evolução demográfica e habitacional e compara os respectivos ritmos de crescimento, chamando a atenção para desequilíbrios e distorções entre população e habitação através da exploração de vários indicadores. Apresenta grande número de indicadores trabalhados em valores relativos a partir da fonte referida e faz especial alusão aos concelhos do Porto e de Vila Nova de Gaia. Chama a atenção, em nota de conclusão, para possíveis vantagens na fusão dos concelhos do Porto e de Vila Nova de Gaia, tendo em conta os indicadores apresentados, sem considerar de todo essa fusão como a única possível. From the analysis of the statisticians of the constant population and the habitation in the censuses for the municipalities of the Area Metropolitan of the Porto, 1991 and 2001, the article makes a description of the demographic and the number of habitations evolution and compares the respective rhythms of growth, calling the attention for the disequilibria and distortions between population and habitation through the exploration of some pointers. It presents great number of pointers worked in relative values from the cited source and makes special description to the municipalities of the Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. It calls the attention, in note of conclusion, for possible advantages of fusing of the municipalities of the Porto and of Vila Nova de Gaia, having in account the presented pointers, without considering all of this fusing as only the possible one.
