Resumo: | The urinary catheter use constitutes an essential practice in healthcare today. The vesical catheterization associated urinary tract infection is the most common nosocomial infection and represents about 40% of all healthcare associated infections. Infection risk is determined by urinary catheterization frequency and length of stay. It is fundamental to always question urinary catheterization indication and to review this indication on a daily basis. It is also fundamental to be conscientious about current complications of the urinary catheterization. A form of prevention and minimization of the impact of those complications is to use protocols and appropriate practices for both insertion and maintenance of the urinary catheters (called bundles). We must always keep in mind that the best way of achieving these goals is to take care of the urinary catheters in an individualized way and to remove them as soon as possible. |

We must always keep in mind that the best way of achieving these goals is to take care of the urinary catheters in an individualized way and to remove them as soon as possible.O uso de algália ou cateter urinário constitui hoje uma componente essencial dos cuidados de saúde.
