Resumo: Parathyroid gland surgery is almost reserved for hyperfunction. Cure rates are high especially when it comes to a first cervical intervention. In a small percentage of patients, hyperparathyroidism persists as a result of incomplete resection of hyperfunctioning tissue. Gamma-chamber oriented parathyroidectomy appears in these cases as an intraoperative adjuvant for localization and complete excision of abnormal tissue. The authors describe the case of a patient who underwent several cervical surgeries due to recurrence and persistence of hyperparathyroidism. The case is intended to illustrate the advantage of using this method in reintervention setting, generally technically demanding and with a higher rate of surgical failure.

As taxas de cura são elevadas sobretudo quando se trata de uma primeira intervenção cervical. Numa percentagem reduzida dos doentes, o hiperparatiroidismo persiste resultado de uma ressecção incompleta do tecido hiperfuncionante. A paratiroidectomia orientada por gama câmara surge nestes casos como um adjuvante intra-operatório para a localização e excisão completa do tecido anómalo. Os autores descrevem o caso de uma doente submetida a várias intervenções cirúrgicas cervicais por recorrência e persistência do hiperparatiroidismo.
