O objetivo da investigação é clarificar o papel do Mar Português como elemento estruturante da Política Externa Portuguesa. Para tal, procura-se esclarecer a relação entre a natureza marítima da Identidade Nacional Portuguesa e algumas das opções expressas no seu Conceito Estratégico Nacional. Na esteira deste percurso, investigámos os fundamentos económicos e geopolíticos que fazem do Mar Português um fator de Poder a conservar, potenciar e defender. A investigação que agora apresentamos permitiu concluir que o Mar Português é fundamental e estruturante em diversos elementos da organização de Portugal — a Identidade Nacional, o CEN, a inserção internacional, a segurança e defesa e a economia —, razão pela qual é verdadeiro afirmar que influencia a Política Externa Portuguesa do Século XXI.Abstract: The thesis we present now deals with the theme "The Portuguese Sea in Portuguese Foreign Policy of the 21St Century". The goal of the research is to clarify the role of the Portuguese Sea as a structural element of Portuguese Foreign Policy. To this end, we try to clarify the relationship between the maritime nature of the Portuguese national identity and some of the options set out in its National Strategic Concept. In the wake of this journey, we investigated the economic and geopolitical foundations that make the Portuguese Sea a factor of power to conserve, enhance and defend.
