The need to provide universal and sustainable Palliative Care implies the involvement of professionals at various levels of care. In this way, it is important to train competent professionals with the practical consolidation of solid academic training who are capable of providing specialized Palliative Care. At the same time, it is necessary to develop an effective articulation between the different levels of care, defining levels of care and specific competences for these different levels. The professional internship in the Palliative Care Team in the Intra-hospital Support Team in Palliative Care at Centro Hospitalar Póvoa de Varzim/Vila do Conde EPE (CHPVVC) has as main objective to combine the knowledge acquired through the practical component with the knowledge acquired through the theoretical and scientific component in order to obtain a greater consolidation of the acquired knowledge. A technical-scientific internship of 405 hours will be carried out (between October 2022 and June 2023) actively integrating the intrahospitalar support team in Palliative Care, in all its areas of action. Variables from the sample of patients observed during the internship will be collected and analyzed, including sociodemographic data, the main diagnosis, the main symptom that motivated the referral, destination after discharge and knowledge of the patient/relatives in relation to the prognosis. Data will be recorded and analyzed in a database using the Microsoft Excel(c) 2022 program. At the same time, protocols will be developed at local level to facilitate an effective articulation between the different levels of care, defining levels of care and specific competences for these different levels.
