Resumo: | The first course on the History of Tropical Medicine took place between October and December 2014, by using an innovative platform at Web 2.0. This platform enabled the development of training activities, simultaneously and real-time, in two different countries—Brazil and Portugal. This course involved around 30 students and teachers on both sides of the Atlantic and emerged as the result of an inter-institutional partnership (Casa Oswaldo Cruz/Fiocruz, Faculty of Sciences and Technology and the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the New University of Lisbon) and the need to develop pedagogical and scientific tools for distance teaching, within a strategy of consolidation of international health training. The aim of this initiative is to launch a reflection about this specialized university training experience, pioneer in both Portugal and Brazil, based on two complementary elements: the programme dynamics developed by teachers and researchers, and the evaluation of students. In the end, the aim is to evaluate the potential of this kind of course training in improving the syllabuses of advanced university training in the health sciences. The results, although in an early stage, can contribute to a wide-range reflection, applied to different scopes and knowledge networks, to which the internet is an important window of opportunity, in the context of teaching and research on institutional history and health sciences’ heritage. |
