Resumo: This study revealed that experiences of illness involve aspects that go beyond the bio-physiological signs of the disease, its degree of visibility, and discomfort, among others. The interpretation of disease symptoms and associated interventions encompass social and cultural factors that structure individuals' contexts. Individuals use different rationalities and conceptions of truth to analyse and assess risks.
