José Carlos Loureiro is a portuguese architect that for the past seventy four years designed countless landmarks of unpaired quality in the portuguese landscape. It's a reference in the architectural panorama for the more than four hundred projects made as well for his dedication to teaching. His work is characterized by a desire of modernity that urges him to study and absorb the landscape where he is going to work. Humanist by nature, it's work comprehension is seen as essencial in the domain of relation between Architecture and Urban Landscape. Through the critical analysis of a select number of works, it is proposed an understanding of the built city by the dialog between the consolidates masses and a contemporary thinking that no architect should ignore. Aiming to alert and discuss the issues of the contemporary city, are presented several themes parallels to José Carlos Loureiro work. There represent other time but their comprehension may serve as auxiliar since it is exemplary in solving the urban problem though drawing, as a contribution to an urgent debate, as it is the need of intervention towards a sustainable growth of our cities.. We seek the resolution of an urban problem through architectural design, that is, doing architecture.
