Resumo: Introduction: Out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in industrialized countries. In Portugal, in only 18.5% of situations resuscitation maneuvers are initiated. Several entities defend the dissemination of knowledge about Basic Life Support (BLS), including its inclusion in school curricula. General objective: T promote health literacy in the BLS area to children from seven to eleven years old. Material & Methods: We used the project methodology. The population consisted of 82 children in the 3rd and 4th grades. Applied diagnostic questionnaire, replicated at the end of the intervention. The intervention consisted of training with a theoretical and practical component. Results/Discussion: From the analysis of the responses, before and after the intervention, the following stand out: questions that addressed common aspects, such as “which number to call in an emergency,” there were small rates of variation (90% to 100%). In the specific questions there were low rates of correct answers, which increased after the intervention, for example “number of compressions to be performed in a BLS cycle,” going from 0% to 90.8%. Conclusion: There was a positive variation in the answers obtained in the final questionnaire, demonstrating the positive impact of the project on the children's learning.
