Resumo: Ethinyl Estradiol is a synthetic estrogen used worldwide in contraception pills. This compound has been shown to negatively impact wildlife in numerous ways most notably inducing fish feminization. Ethinyl Estradiol concentration has been increasing in water matrices in the last decades as result of higher usage and deficient elimination in Wastewater Treatment Plants. In this work, Supported Ionic Liquids (SILs) were studied as potential Ethinyl Estradiol adsorbents. Kinetic models and Isotherms were used to compare the best performing SIL, [Si][N3118]Cl, with Activated Carbon. [Si][N3118]Cl maximum adsorption capacity was determined to be lower than that of Activated Carbon, 44.81 mg/g and 52.41 mg/g respectively, but the SIL showed better potentiality for commercial use due to faster EE2 adsorption, reaching equilibrium in 5 min in contrast with Activated Carbon which took 360 min.
