HIV associated Kaposi sarcoma

Resumo: The recent appearance of the Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) epidemie, in current clinical practice, will result in rare clinical entities being morefrequently encountered e.g. Pulmonary Kaposi Sarcoma (PKS). Radiology has na importantrole to lay in the evaluation of disease extension of PKS. The aggressive expresion of PKS has lead to the de­velopment of new treatments in a number of di­fferent areas (immonoregulatory, hormonal and cytostatic). The new concepts about probable disease origin will perhaps enable a prophylac­tic treatment for the immunodepressed infected with the AIDS virus.

A radiologia tem um papel preponderante na ava­liação da extensão do SKP. A grande agressivi­dade que por vezes apresenta conduziu à inves­tigação denovas terapêuticas em diferentes áreas (imunomodulação, hormonal e citostática).
