Contributo para o estudo da obra de Amoroso Lopes: um retrato da transformação do espaço doméstico da casa

This dissertation explores and analysis the abundant project work of the portuguese architect Manuel Amoroso Lopes, focusing on the first half of the 20th century. When compared to other Portuguese architects of the same generation, Amoroso Lope's work remains largely unstudied. This investigation is the result of a lengthy investigative research of a group of Amoroso Lope's works, through the study of project processes located in various archives and visits to the building sites. This way we tried to comprehend the time period under consideration through an analysis and reflection of portuguese architectural scene to which Amoroso Lopes belongs. It was a period characterized by a reformulation of the sociocultural values and, simultaneously, a pursuit for news ideals concerning architectural production, focusing on the matter of modern architecture. An analysis is also made of the relation between the architect, the School of Fine Arts of Porto and his Beaux-Arts education. The most relevant case studies are the Manuel Ferreira House and the Delfim Sampaio House, both of which allow a study of the architect's work through the transformations of the portuguese domestic space question, which inevitably, resulted in a group of distinct changes. The housing issue raises numerous questions among which is the relation with the public space, with the city, and the relation between the resident and the home.
