This dissertation aims to give an understanding of what this practice consists of and what are the benefits and harms associated with it. For this, some definitions of transhumance will be mentioned, the history of transhumance, and later the relationships that existed between pastoralism and religion, the routes that were used and the traditions that emerged due to this activity. The main objective of this work is to understand how transhumance can be used to promote tourism in Castro Daire. What events already exist? What has already been done? For this, tourism in Portugal, the main indicators and statistical data related to nature tourism and cultural tourism will be analyzed. Then, the theoretical framework on nature tourism, cultural tourism, cultural and nature routes and the relationships between tourists and residents is carried out. After this topic we talk about transhumance routes in Portugal, definitions, historical notes, the relationship between pastoralism and religion, routes to the Montemuro mountain range and traditions. Afterwards, we will discuss the municipality of Castro Daire, the characterization of the territory and the connection between the territory and tourism. Then, the methodology used in the work is explained, how the interview was carried out, data collection and the method of analysis. Finally, the results are presented: statistical analysis of data, summary of interviews and presentation of proposals. This is how it is concluded that transhumance can have a positive impact on the region, however, it is necessary to define the strategy to be adopted so that there is no complication with the environment, nor the massification of the tourist product. It is also important to improve the dissemination of transhumance, as a tourist attraction, in the municipality and among tourist agents, since the latter are not aware of the existence of projects implemented by the municipality on this topic.A transumância é uma atividade ancestral e que tem vindo a cair no esquecimento nos últimos anos. Esta dissertação tem o propósito de dar a entender no que consiste esta prática e quais os benefícios e malefícios a ela associados. Para isso, serão referidas algumas definições de transumância, a história da transumância, e posteriormente as relações que existiam entre a pastorícia e a religião, as rotas que eram utilizadas e as tradições que surgiram devido a esta atividade. O principal objetivo do presente trabalho é compreender como se pode utilizar a transumância, com a finalidade de promover o turismo em Castro Daire. Que eventos já existem? O que já foi feito? Para isso será analisado o turismo em Portugal, os principais indicadores e dados estatísticos referentes ao turismo de natureza e turismo cultural. Seguidamente realiza-se o enquadramento teórico sobre o turismo de natureza, o turismo cultural, as rotas culturais e de natureza e as relações existentes entre os turistas e os residentes. Após este tópico fala-se das rotas da transumância em Portugal, as definições, notas históricas, a relação entre a pastorícia e a religião, as rotas para a serra de Montemuro e as tradições. Depois abordar-se-á o concelho de Castro Daire, a caracterização do território e a ligação entre o território e o turismo. Em seguida explica-se a metodologia utilizada no trabalho, como foi realizada a entrevista, a recolha dos dados e o método de análise. Finalmente expõe-se os resultados: análise estatística dos dados, resumo das entrevistas e apresentação de propostas. É assim que se conclui que a transumância pode vir a ter um impacto positivo na região, contudo é preciso definir bem a estratégia a adotar para não haver complicações com o meio ambiente, nem massificação do produto turístico.
