Cota CDA 143For a long time and until nowadays, Portugal appears in the international automotive history as a country with lots of enthusiasts, but without any real tradition related to Automotive Design or manufacturing. Nevertheless, the Portuguese automotive history shows itself full with initiatives, projects and even brands that for more than a century of automobiles present in this country, allowed themselves to raise the potential and gain interest of the Portuguese Design. Since the first automobile arrived the country in 1895 and until the most recent projects held during the year of 2012, the history of the automobile made in Portugal draws with dozens of projects, drivers, mechanics, enthusiasts and even entrepreneur designers that made not only the Portuguese automobiles become a reality, but also determined, as decades went by, what is really the Portuguese Automotive Design. The current investigation, that has the primary goal of understanding the reasons not to exist any Portuguese manufacturer that lasted until today, focus on the analysis of every major case of Automotive Design in this country, in a search to determine the reasons that made every previous attempt in developing a Portuguese car come to an end, without any of them reaching our days.
