Phantoms are devices used with medical imaging systems such as CT, MRI, PET and Ultrasonography to calibrate the system, optimize their operation and which can be utilized to explore different 3D image reconstruction processes to deliver the highest performance. A multimodal phantom provides contrast in two or more imaging technologies. There are two types of phantoms: the digital and physical phantoms. The latter is the focus of this work. The physical phantom of life-size mouse will contain the skeleton, the skin and majority of organs: brain, lungs, heart, liver, stomach, spleen, kidneys, large intestine, small intestine, appendix and bladder. This work will assist with the design and manufacture of the next generation of multimodal physical phantoms (it will be used in CT, PET and MRI). The mouse phantom will contain realistic anatomy and it will be produced by Direct Digital Manufacturing techniques (DDM). DDM is a family of technologies which enable objects to be produced directly from a digital definition without the need for complex tooling or moulds. These phantoms will have high resolution imaging capabilities and energies scaled to match the small animals geometries. It is also important to refer to the methods of creating a physical phantom. The first is the traditional mould approach which leads a less sophisticated design that does not contain any realistic structures and hence the evaluation of the imaging system becomes limited. The second approach which has developed more recently are the 3D-printed phantoms, with more complex structures. The 3-D printed technology can be achieved in 2 ways: directly, where the phantom is printed and, indirectly, where the casting mould is printed, and other biomaterials are used to build the phantom. The physical phantom will use materials that mimics the function of biological tissue. Preparing a multimodal phantom means that we need to identify those which can mimic more than one property, as many as medical imaging techniques used.Outro - Project POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016855 and PTDC/BBB-IMG/4909/2014.2019-09-202025-09-18T00:00:00Zinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesishttp://hdl.handle.net/10316/88012http://hdl.handle.net/10316/88012TID:202308839engSaraiva, João Gabriel de Jesus Pereirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/embargoedAccessreponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAP2023-10-27T10:54:43Zoai:estudogeral.uc.pt:10316/88012Portal AgregadorONGhttps://www.rcaap.pt/oai/openaireopendoar:71602024-03-19T21:08:48.936805Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos) - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãofalse |
