The subject comes from a desire to understand the various postures andmultiplicity of forms that shape a city, as well as to identify its complex problems.Acquire, in this case, and in the words of Manuel Mendes, knowledgeabout how Porto and Gaia, become such cities and how they are or want to be.The aim of this dissertation is to study the Gaia river bank between theD. Luís I Bridge and the Infante Bridge, from the cellars that appear in terracesbelow the Serra do Pilar Monastery, to the old ceramics factory, at Cais S.Nicolau, including them. It is an area that does not fulfill its true potential, itsproximity to places of great importance in the city - the Oporto Ribeira area, theCathedral and the Morro Garden in Gaia - and the unique value of its naturalheritage - Serra do Pilar and all the lands that go down the slope until DouroRiver bank - give unique characteristics to a fragment of a city out of context inrelation to its limits.Then comes the need to rethink the city, through a proposal of requalificationof the spaces in question, an urban plan that intervenes in existing structures,creates new ones, returns these spaces to the city and integrates thembringing new reciprocal relations between the new and existing city.
