This article provides a context for this piece by tracing the textual and chant traditions of the Kyries tenebrarum in Portugal. Chant paraphrase procedures used in the polyphonic setting are analysed and its main stylistic features are discussed by comparison with the few existing polyphonic pieces composed in Coimbra in about the same period. A wider perspective of the sacred polyphonic music composed in Portugal in around 1500 eventually emerges from this brief survey.Centro de Estudos de Sociologia e Estética Musical (CESEM - NOVA FCSH)RUND'Alvarenga, João Pedro2020-02-14T03:49:14Z20192019-01-01T00:00:00Zinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/article21application/pdfhttp://hdl.handle.net/10362/92739eng2183-8410PURE: 15631448info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAP2023-07-10T15:52:41ZPortal AgregadorONG
