ABSTRACTObjective: To establish the socio-cultural profile and the use of generic drugs by the elderly in Avenida district in the city of Itajubá, Minas Gerais. Methods: From the population of 584 individuals, the confidence level was 95% and the p ratio was 0.54, reaching the sample of 232 subjects, with 203 seniors at the end of the research. The Consent Term and then a questionnaire with 10 questions about the generic medicine was applied. Data was analyzed and the results were showed in graphics. Results: 95% of the seniors had already heard about generics medicine, 89% gave them some concept and 32% defined them as 'the ones with the lowest price'. 30% reported having knowledge of generic medicine through the drugstores and their sale assistants and 82% of seniors answered they use generic medicine. 86% believe in the effectiveness of generic remedy and 71% replace the brand drug for the generic. On medical prescription, 58% of seniors stated their doctors have already prescribed generic medicine. Conclusion: there is no real knowledge of the concept of generic medicine, and because of this, the population may lose the right to choose, based only on sociocultural mediatic and economic influences. It is important to consider the creation of a little manual to be available to the entire population in a way to bring in information regarding all processes of the generic medicine, its risks and benefits in a clear and clarified way. Keywords: Generic medicine, Sociocultural profile, Adhesion factors to generic medicine. |
