House mistresses: on the violence resulting of criminalizing places where prostitution take place

In this work I approach the realization of prostitution, focusing on mistresses and their houses of prostitution. This relationship is criminalized in the Brazilian Penal Code, although there is the procedure of PL 4211/2012, known as Gabriela Leite, which aims precisely to regulate such relationship and establishments in which programs are carried out. This understanding is combined with the work of political organizations of sex workers and with the ethnographic work that I carried out in the master’s degree research with mistresses of prostitution in a specific neighborhood where there are about 200 different settings of housesof prostitution. The existence of this neighborhood points to the importance of considering the practice of prostitution in its context of exercise. As such, I propose a discussion about the criminalization of madams and their houses of prostitution, above all due to the violence that results from this for the people involved in the realization of programs, as well as questioning the forms of anthropological writing that can be effected about a relationship that is criminalized.
