Resumo: This paper aims to present the dynamics of torture practices that occurred in the Brazilian prison system. To this end, a political, historical and legal contextualization of torture in the world and in Brazil is initially carried out. Then, an analysis is made based on the survey of 254 cases of torture allegations monitored by the Pastoral Carcerária Nacional between 1999 and 2017. And finally, a brief analysis of torture and the challenges of its confrontation in the Brazilian context is elaborated. The study concludes that there is an aggravation of torture in Brazil from the super-incarceration and the ways to prevent torture must pass through the understanding of the political meaning of State violence.

Para tanto, é feita inicialmente uma contextualização política, histórica e jurídica sobre a tortura no mundo e no Brasil. Em seguida, é realizada uma análise a partir do levantamento de 254 casos de denúncia de tortura acompanhados pela Pastoral Carcerária Nacional entre 1999 e 2017. E finalmente, se elabora uma breve abordagem sobre os desafios do enfrentamento à tortura no contexto brasileiro.
