Resumo: This article presents a discussion on the attitudes of the living towards the dead, based on the analysis of ceramic artifacts and their spatial arrangements indicative of funerary rituals, related to the archaeological sites Laranjal do Jari I and II, two ancient villages of southern Amapá, dating back to the 8th and 15th centuries AD. Structures of ceramic deposition contained assemblages called Jari and Koriabo. From a techno-functional analysis and its association with the ceramic arrangements and human burials, it is suggested the existence of forms of sociability and conceptions about life and death that differ from the notions of removal of the dead and construction of new identities, common to the majority of contemporary indigenous populations.
