Resumo: This article discusses possibilities of using a culturalist based-concept of landscape in studies on rock art. Firstly it presents a theoretical discussion about landscape, here understood as a synchronic and diachronic human production, composed of multiple compartments and layers of historical trajectories from which people give meaning to life. Such discussion is based on extensive research focused on rock art and landscape analysis from a symbolic-culturalist approach, but with different theoretical and methodological perspectives. Finally, this work focuses on the studies of rock art and the archaeological content of four sites located in Serra Negra, Minas Gerais State. The data is discussed highlighting the theoretical and methodological diversity of analysis that considers these archaeological remains under the scope of the landscape concept. We conclude that both, rock art and landscape, are remaining marks of the same human construction, which is always symbolic.
