Pain management in non-cancer elderly patients in the palliative phase

Resumo: Introduction: Pain is associated with tissue damage, which includes behaviors and emotions that lead to both physical and cognitive dependence, requiring management to provide better care, reducing the suffering of the patients and relatives. Objective: To determine pain management by nursing staff in non-oncological older adult patients in the palliative phase. Methods: The investigation corresponds to a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study. The population was 80 nurses from the from Public Hospital. It was collected through surveys with 12 questions with likert scale, divided into 5 dimensions: pain assessment, medication administration, purpose of medication administration, work of the nursing staff, and knowledge. Results: The nursing staff states that 71.3% perform pain assessment, 63.8% administer medication at fixed times, 66.3% observe the patient being satisfied, 67.5% assess side effects and 75% affirm that morphine it is used in chronic pain. Conclusions: Professional interventions for pain management in non-oncological older adult patients in the palliative phase are favorable, the majority constantly apply the care to reduce pain, however, it is necessary to expand their knowledge according to with administered medication.

Objetivo: Determinar el manejo del dolor por parte del personal de enfermería en pacientes adultos mayores no oncológicos en fase paliativa. Métodos: La investigación corresponde a un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y transversal. La muestra fue de 80 enfermeras de un Hospital Público. A las cuales se aplicó una encuesta con 12 preguntas cerradas con escala tipo likert, divididas en 5 dimensiones: valoración del dolor, administración de medicación, propósito de la administración de medicación, labor del personal de enfermería y conocimiento. Resultados: El personal de enfermería manifestó que el 71,3% realiza valoración del dolor, 63,8% administra medicación en horarios fijos, 66,3% observa al paciente satisfecho, 67,5% valoran efectos secundarios y el 75% afirma que la morfina se utiliza en el dolor crónico. Conclusiones: Las intervenciones del profesional para el manejo del dolor en pacientes adultos mayores no oncológicos en fase paliativa son favorables, pues la mayoría aplica constantemente los cuidados para disminuir el dolor, sin embargo, requieren ampliar su conocimiento de acuerdo con la medicación administrada.Introdução: A dor está associada ao dano tecidual, que inclui comportamentos e emoções que levam à dependência física e cognitiva, necessitando de manejo com e sem medicação para melhor cuidado, reduzindo o sofrimento de pacientes e familiares. Objetivo: Determinar o manejo da dor pela equipe de enfermagem em idosos não oncológicos em fase paliativa. Métodos: A pesquisa corresponde a um estudo quantitativo, descritivo e transversal. A amostra foi de 80 enfermeiros de um Hospital Público. A eles foi aplicado um questionário com 12 questões fechadas com escala do tipo Likert, divididas em 5 dimensões: avaliação da dor, administração de medicamentos, finalidade da administração de medicamentos, trabalho da equipe de enfermagem e conhecimento. Resultados: A equipe de enfermagem afirmou que 71,3% realizam avaliação da dor, 63,8% administram medicação em horário normal, 66,3% observam a satisfação do paciente, 67,5% avaliam efeitos colaterais e 75% % afirmam que a Morfina é utilizada na dor crônica.
