General health status of caregivers of children who attend consultations in pediatric areas

Introduction: Child caregivers have a fundamental role in public health since they are responsible for caring for them. The existence of alterations in the general health status of caregivers directly influences the child's health. Objective: To determine the general health status of the caregivers of the children who attend the consultations of the pediatric areas. Methodology: Study of descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional design and in a period of time between April to June 2022. A census sample was used, all those caregivers of children who decided to be part of the research in the Municipal Assistance Health Center, in the city of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. Results: The female sex predominates in 88%, especially the mothers with respect to the male sex, with ages between 18-28 years in 33%. The predominant general health status of caregivers of children is: "no case" in the 4 subscales (GHQ-28 <=5 "No case"). There were only "cases" in the subscales: anxiety-insomnia in 16%, followed by the somatic symptoms subscale in 13%. Conclusions: The general health status of child caregivers is satisfactory despite the multiple occupations they perform.
