Death as a natural process in the terminal phase

Resumo: Introduction: Nursing staff must acquire experience and knowledge about the physical and psychological management of cancer patients, considering death as the end of life, the management and acceptance of grief must be a priority, taking into account that death of patients indirectly affects health personnel on a psychological level. Objective: To identify the acceptance of death as a natural process in terminally ill patients, by Nursing staff. Methodology: The research was quantitative, field and descriptive, whose population was 24 nurses who work at the Hospital Solca Núcleo de Tungurahua, the survey was applied based on the questionnaire of attitudes towards death that addressed 6 dimensions. Results: 83.33% have thought of death as a possible fact, 66% are afraid of dying young and find it difficult to face death, 62% report that when they attend a terminal patient they have thought about the possibility of his death and it moves him to face his family, 29% see death as a passage to eternity and think that there is life after death and 33% show that death can be an exit to the load of the life. Conclusion: The death of a patient in the terminal phase is a scene that the nursing staff faces daily, accepting it provides an adequate management of grief and allows to provide care with empathy directed to the patient.

Objetivo: Identificar la aceptación de la muerte cómo proceso natural en pacientes de fase terminal, por el personal de Enfermería. Metodología: La investigación fue de tipo cuantitativa, de campo y descriptiva, cuya población fue de 24 enfermero/as que laboran en el Hospital Solca Núcleo de Tungurahua, se aplicó la encuesta basada en el cuestionario de actitudes ante la muerte que abordó 6 dimensiones. Resultados: El 83,33% ha pensado en la muerte como un hecho posible, un 66% tienen miedo a morir joven y encuentra difícil encarar a la muerte, el 62% refiere que cuando asiste a un paciente terminal ha pensado en la posibilidad de su muerte y le conmueve enfrentar a la familia del mismo, un 29% ven la muerte como un paso a la eternidad y piensan que hay vida después de la muerte y el 33% pone de manifiesto que la muerte puede ser una salida a la carga de la vida. Conclusión: La muerte de un paciente en fase terminal es una escena a la cual el personal de enfermería se enfrenta a diario, aceptar la misma proporciona un manejo adecuado del duelo y permite brindar cuidados con empatía dirigidos al paciente.Introdução: A equipe de enfermagem deve adquirir experiência e conhecimento sobre o manejo físico e psicológico do paciente oncológico, considerando a morte como o fim da vida, o manejo e a aceitação do luto devem ser prioritários, tendo em vista que a morte do paciente afeta indiretamente o pessoal de saúde em um nível psicológico. Objetivo: Identificar a aceitação da morte como processo natural em pacientes em fase terminal, pela equipe de Enfermagem. Metodologia: A pesquisa foi quantitativa, de campo e descritiva, cuja população foi de 24 enfermeiros que atuam no Hospital Solca Núcleo de Tungurahua, a pesquisa foi aplicada com base no questionário de atitudes em relação à morte que abordou 6 dimensões. Resultados: El 83,33% ha pensado en la muerte como un hecho posible, un 66% tienen miedo a morir joven y encuentra difícil encarar a la muerte, el 62% refiere que cuando asiste a un paciente terminal ha pensado en la posibilidad de su muerte y le conmueve enfrentar a la familia del mismo, un 29% ven la muerte como un paso a la eternidad y piensan que hay vida después de la muerte y el 33% pone de manifiesto que la muerte puede ser una salida a la carga da vida.
