Resumo: This study aimed to demonstrate the potential of Rua do Porto Park, in Piracicaba (São Paulo State, Brazil) for birdwatching activities and encourage local ecotourism. The park is about 200 thousand square meters with extensive grassy areas, a wooded area, and a central lake. A qualitative survey of the local avifauna numbered 106 species, which is equivalent to approximately 28% of the birds recorded in the municipality, part of them easily seen in a flat path along the walking trail, promoting the activity with beginners, children and the elderly. This park is located within the Rua do Porto complex, which offers leisure alternatives, is yet another attraction for birdwatchers. Five main observation points are suggested, based on the work and sightings carried out there. Thus, informing the community about the diversity of birds found in the area and fostering birdwatching activities can arouse interest in birds and intensify ecotourism in the region, including Rua do Porto Park as one of the touristic birdwatching sites. For this, it is necessary to properly manage the park, considering the resources used by the avifauna as well as the installation of educational signs, in order to solve problems detected there and draw visitors’attention to conservation measures and use of the area.
