Resumo: The theme of partnerships for public use in protected areas, particularly the concession modality, has gained widespread attention due to the proposal of Federal and State government programs, as the main strategy aimed at increasing visitation and profitability of these areas. As an institution responsible for generating new knowledge, fostering critical and civic engagement in its students, and contributing to a more just and egalitarian society, universities must focus on this topic to reflect on and disseminate knowledge about more advantageous forms of partnerships for the communities surrounding these protected areas. This article reports on the experiences of the UFVJM Tourism Program about partnerships for public use in protected areas. It describes the teaching, research, and outreach activities carried out on this topic, highlighting the need to comply with the principle of inseparability and the challenges and contradictions that demand a new approach from universities. As a result, we understand that the actions and initiatives of teaching, research and outreach already carried out on the theme within the scope of the UFVJM Tourism Program are not enough, and there is still much to be done, especially in overcoming the challenges that hinder the full implementation of the principle of inseparability between teaching, research, and outreach. Furthermore, it is necessary to highlight the need to disseminate knowledge and partnership initiatives guided by the Regulatory Framework for Civil Society Organizations, as this can reinforce the social role of universities and emphasize their contribution to the scientific, socioeconomic, and cultural development of society.
