Resumo: Birdwatching tourism has emerged as an alternative for sustainability and as a tourism model that prioritizes interaction with nature and respect for natural environments and their biodiversity. When considering only the urban and periurban area of Campo Grande, approximately 400 species of birds are added, representing an important active for the development of birdwatching tourism. The present work was carried out from May/2016 to August/2018 with the objective of mapping important areas (hotspots) and conducive to birdwatching, and thus contribute to the routing of this tourist practice. For the definition of hotspots for birdwatching, 11 socio-environmental indicators were used, namely: richness of bird species; functional and biophilic landscaping; conservation unit; environmental heterogeneity; green area; use by birdwatchers; type of access; local and visitor security; infrastructure for birdwatching; degree of local anthropization; and route / destination of migrant species. In all, 30 important areas for birdwatching (hotspots) were identified. The result of this mapping was adopted by the municipal tourism management for the elaboration of the Birdwatching Route Campo Grande. The identification and mapping of hotspots represent important steps for public policies on tourism and the environment, the structuring of the Birdwatching tourist segment, urban planning and management, environmental education practices and citizenship.
