Resumo: The urban park represents an important role in the quality of life of the local population and can contribute to environmental perception during leisure practice. In order to evaluate the potential of the park for environmental education during leisure time, a qualitative research was conducted, whose data were obtained through documental analysis and testimony obtained with the park management team. The park constitutes an adequate space to promote education/environmental awareness (by revealing the fauna, flora and endemic species) for schoolchildren in pedagogical tourism. Environmental actions align under the ethics of sustainable development. The park is an alternative to ecotourism for visitors and tourists in Natal (RN, Brazil)
