Use of tourism sustainability indicators in Conservation Units in recent decades: impacts and importance

Resumo: In the face of the contribution and power of impact of tourism to societies and natural environments, several tools for analyzing its sustainability have been developed, such as sustainability indicators systems. In regards of protected areas, studies on this type of indicators are very important, and can contribute to the conservation and monitoring of the strategies for sustainability. The aims of this study were to understand how sustainability indicators have been used as tourism evaluation and how they are related to conservation units. The literature review revealed several studies on sustainability indicators of tourism applied in Brazil, as well as studies that relate indicators with conservation units. Twenty-six articles focused on the Pressure-state-responses indicator systems, Tourism Development Sustainability Indicator System, and models based on the sustainability of ecotourism in conservation units were considered in the present study. The present work allowed to infer about the importance of sustainability indicators of tourism in the evaluation of protected areas, and how studies on sustainability in the tourist activity bring knowledge in the science field.

E no que se refere a áreas protegidas, estudos acerca desta temática se fazem de grande importância, podendo contribuir com a conservação e acompanhamento das estratégias em prol da sustentabilidade. O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender como têm sido utilizados os indicadores de sustentabilidade para avaliação turística e como estes se relacionam com as Unidades de Conservação. Na metodologia foi procedida uma revisão bibliográfica, de modo que foram pesquisados artigos científicos que abordassem a temática dos indicadores de sustentabilidade do turismo utilizados no Brasil, bem como trabalhos que considerassem a relação destes com as Unidades de Conservação. Vinte e seis artigos foram considerados neste estudo, com destaque para os sistemas de indicadores Pressão-Estado-Resposta (PER), Sistema de Indicadores de Sustentabilidade do Desenvolvimento do Turismo (SISDTur) e os modelos que estudaram a sustentabilidade do ecoturismo em Unidades de Conservação.
