Resumo: | The last great architectural complex built by Augustus was his Forum, which had, in a prominent place, a temple dedicated to Mars Vltor. This temple celebrated a double vengeance: against Julius Caesar’s assassins and against Parthians. In this article, we aim to address the importance that the construction of such a temple played in the government of Augustus and the functions it started to exert, as well as analyze its iconography in order to display how this god of war would have been used as a symbol of peace. |
