Resumo: Created by Malba Tahan in the mid 40s from the rules of bridge, "copacabana" is a card game that characterized the meetings that the author of The Man Who Counted ritually held on Saturdays in his house, with but a very few carefully selected friends and relatives. The card playing took place at his home on 43 Arthur de Araripe Street, in Gávea, Rio de Janeiro, where he lived from 1943 until his final days in 1974. In order to understand the place that the games occupied in his busy life as writer, mathematician and teacher, first of all, we will define the presence to chess, for which we will also provide some images, and historical and chess notes for better understanding. We will then offer the reader the "copacabana" card game, with its history, rules, moves and strategies, seeking to perpetuate, thus, another Malba-tahanian practice, served in a sauce of zesty expressions, which brought life to his card-playing nights.
