Resumo: Qualitative and quantitative alterations in ileal flora during obstructive jaundice and the role of bile salts were evaluated in rats. Obstructive jaundice was associated with bacterial overgrowth in the ileum. This effect may be due to the reduced concentration of bile salts, since dietary supplementation reduced the small bowel aerobic bacterial flora.
