COUPLES' PERCEPTION OF PORNOGRAPHY CONSUMPTION: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY

Resumo: The research explored couples' perceptions of pornography consumption, highlighting the evaluative complexity of this phenomenon in interpersonal relationships. Despite frequent use, pornography is generally considered a practice to be avoided due to its negative social stigma, especially in romantic contexts. The study involved 181 participants of both genders, utilizing an online questionnaire and statistical analyses. The results revealed significant differences between male and female participants, such as higher overall consumption of pornography by men and distinct associations between pornography and romantic relationships. These findings align with existing literature, indicating that the use of pornography is more socially acceptable for men, reflecting behavioral differences attributed to gender in the current cultural context. Conjugal relationships.La investigación exploró la percepción de las parejas sobre el consumo de pornografía, resaltando la complejidad evaluativa de este fenómeno en las relaciones interpersonales. Aunque la pornografía se utiliza con frecuencia, generalmente se considera una práctica a evitar debido al estigma social negativo, especialmente en contextos amorosos. El estudio involucró a 181 participantes de ambos sexos, utilizando un cuestionario en línea y análisis estadísticos. Los resultados revelaron diferencias significativas entre los géneros masculino y femenino, como un mayor consumo general de pornografía por parte de los hombres y asociaciones distintas entre la pornografía y las relaciones amorosas. Estos hallazgos respaldan la literatura existente, indicando que el uso de la pornografía es más socialmente aceptable para los hombres, reflejando diferencias de comportamiento atribuidas a los géneros en el contexto cultural actual. Palabras clave: Pornografía. Relación amorosa. Conyugalidad.A pornografia constitui-se como um fenômeno multifacetado, com avaliações dissonantes frente ao seu uso. No contexto da conjugalidade, sua usabilidade merece destaque, considerando que, de acordo com a percepção da díade conjugal, pode ser entendido tanto como instrumento de psicoeducação sexual, quanto potencial gerador de conflitos. Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar a percepção de casais sobre o consumo de pornografia. Metodologicamente, participaram 181 pessoas, distribuídos homogeneamente entre homens e mulheres, por meio de um questionário on-line autoaplicável de respostas abertas e fechadas, e posteriormente analisadas por meio de análise estatística e relacional. Os resultados revelaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas frente ao maior consumo de pornografia pelo sexo masculino, com mulheres associando de forma significativa a pornografia como forma de infidelidade. Esses achados corroboram a literatura, indicando que o uso de pornografia tende a ser socialmente aceitável para homens, refletindo diferenças comportamentais atribuídas aos sexos no contexto cultural atual.
