Resumo: The evaluation of scientific productivity is a reality of the Institutions of Higher Education and has been made from data extracted from worldwide consolidated databases especially the Web of Science. In Brazil, the Curriculum Lattes is a platform that brings together a broad set of data regarding the scientific career of Brazilian teachers. The present study evaluates the use of data extracted from Curriculum Lattes for the generation of bibliometric indicators, focusing on the evaluation of the scientific productivity of a Higher Education and Research Institution, Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). For this, comparative bibliometric analyzes were performed, based on the data collection of UFSCar in the Web of Science and data from the Curriculum Lattes. For the extraction of the data through Curriculum Lattes was used the tool SyncLattes developed by the research group NIT/Materials, the data processing was done through Vantage Point software. As results, a set of comparative indicators on the scientific production of UFSCar was elaborated and analyzed from the data stored in the two databases. Based on the theoretical discussion and at analysis of results the conclusion is there was a huge total of data found in Curriculum Lattes and not at the Web of Science index, and they are completed and qualified enough to create bibliometric indicators, making Curriculum Lattes a valid database to evaluate Higher Education and Research Institutions. Thus, for studies focused on the elaboration of bibliometric indicators of an institution, it is recommended to use the Curriculum Lattes, combined with SyncLattes tool to extraction, in conjunction with the use of the Web of Science, to elaborate bibliometric studies of institutions Brazilian teaching and research.

No Brasil, o Currículo Lattes é uma plataforma que reúne um amplo conjunto de dados a respeito da atuação dos pesquisadores brasileiros. O presente estudo avaliou o uso dos dados extraídos do Currículo Lattes para a geração de indicadores bibliométricos, com foco na avaliação da produtividade científica de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior e Pesquisa. O método de pesquisa foi o estudo caso exploratório e a unidade caso a Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar). Foram realizadas análises bibliométricas comparativas, a partir do levantamento de dados da UFSCar indexados na Web of Science e dos dados dos currículos de docentes da instituição no Currículo Lattes. Para a extração dos dados via Currículo Lattes foi utilizada a ferramenta SyncLattes desenvolvida pelo grupo de pesquisa NIT/Materiais, o tratamento dos dados foi realizado através do software Vantage Point. Como resultados foram elaborados e analisados um conjunto de indicadores comparativos sobre a produção científica da UFSCar a partir dos dados armazenados nas duas bases. Com base na discussão teórica e na análise dos resultados conclui‐se que há um total substancial de registros de publicações encontradas nos currículos do Lattes que não estão indexados na Web of Science, com metadados suficientemente completos e de qualidade para a geração de indicadores bibliométricos, o que valida o uso do Currículo Lattes como fonte de dados para a avaliação de instituições de ensino e pesquisa.
