Resumo: | Masonry is known as a building structure for thousands of years. Cases where masonry elements (several units laided together bonded or not with mortar and grouting) support the building structure are widely found. Until mid-19th century, almost all structures had masonry part of its structural elements, although not all historic construction can be called structural masonry the way we understand it today with high strength blocks. The great expansion on the use of structural masonry occurred after the development of specific techniques and equipment. Moreover, technological development has enabled the production of higher strength blocks, dimensional precision and uniformity. To certify the design specified quality, there is the need of construction technologic control. This is the guarantee of minimum structural performance. Quality control is necessary to receive (or acceptance) the materials and components, including blocks, concrete, grout and the mortar, and finally the acceptance of masonry. This paper presents an assessment of the masonry quality control. Two parts has focus in different topics. In the first, field study cases in São Carlos city are assessed. The cases include concrete and ceramic blocks masonry building, and the quality control plan of each case were checked. The other part, focus on evaluating the several quality control tests on prisms compressive strength. From an extensive database, simulations concerning on the calculation of the characteristic value and coefficients of variation of samples, are assessed and weighted. As a conclusion, we can point that the quality control as required by Brazilian standards are not always followed in practice. About the prism test, we suggest considering to evaluate standard sample size specified today. It may be possible to reduce the number of specimens in each sample. |

It may be possible to reduce the number of specimens in each sample.A alvenaria começou é utilizada como estrutura de edificações há milhares de anos, como mostram estudos e construções antigas, em que elementos de alvenaria (combinação de várias unidades arranjadas de forma coerente, unidas ou não por argamassa e graute) servem de suporte à edificação. Até meados do século XIX, quase todas as estruturas tinham alvenaria em parte dos seus elementos estruturais, embora se entenda que esse tipo de construção não possa ser chamado de paredes de alvenaria estrutural, na forma que é hoje entendida. A grande expansão do uso da alvenaria estrutural ocorreu após o desenvolvimento de técnicas e equipamentos específicos. Além disso, o desenvolvimento tecnológico possibilitou a fabricação de blocos de maior resistência, precisão dimensional e uniformidade. Para a obtenção da qualidade especificada em projeto, imprescindível para a obra, é necessário o controle tecnológico da construção como garantia do desempenho estrutural. Para tanto, é necessário o controle de recebimento (ou aceitação) de materiais e componentes, como blocos estruturais, concreto estrutural, graute de enchimento e argamassa de assentamento; controle de aceitação da alvenaria, que é denominado controle de aceitação de componentes e, por fim, o controle de produção (ou de processo) de paredes estruturais e da estrutura do edifício, que é denominado de controle de produção dos componentes. Este trabalho apresenta uma avaliação do controle de obras de alvenaria estrutural, com focos em duas partes. No primeiro são analisados estudos de caso da região de São Carlos. A partir de estudo de campo verificou-se a conformidade ou não de acordo com as normas brasileiras específicas. As obras estudadas são em blocos de concreto e em blocos cerâmicos, onde foram verificados os planos de controle tecnológico dos componentes empregados na obra. Outro foco do estudo foi avaliar o controle da resistência à compressão através de ensaios de prismas. A partir de uma base expressiva de resultados de ensaios reais de controle de obras, foram feitas ponderações e simulações a respeito do cálculo do valor característico em função do número de exemplares das amostras e dos coeficientes de variação. Como conclusão, avaliou-se que o controle de obras como prescrito na normalização brasileira apenas eventualmente é seguida na prática.
