UNVEILING THE OTHER SIDE: LATERAL READING AS A TOOL FOR DIGITAL LITERACY IN CLASSROOMS

Resumo: | This article invites us to explore the development of the reading world from the perspective of digital literacy in the 21st century. With the advent of the internet and the dissemination of (false) information on a massive scale, the Academy’s focus on the development of critical thinking within schools has become increasingly necessary. In this way, we share our reflections in order to close the gap between the concept of lateral reading, a contextualized reading method for the current moment, and the Brazilian Basic Education curriculum. To that end, we explore a lesson designed for eighth and ninth-grade students at a public school in João Pessoa (Paraíba, Brazil). Our goal is to open a space for discussion so that all teachers have the opportunity to analyze both the proposal and the theory behind it closely, in order to find ways to incorporate this new reading technique into their pedagogical repertoire. |

Con la llegada de internet y la difusión de información (falsa) a gran escala, se hace cada vez más necesario el enfoque académico centrado en el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico dentro de la escuela. De esta manera, tejemos nuestras reflexiones con el objetivo de acercar el concepto de lectura lateral, un método de lectura contextualizado para el momento en que vivimos, al currículo de la Educación Básica brasileña. Para lograrlo, exploramos una propuesta de enseñanza diseñada para estudiantes de octavo y noveno grado de una escuela pública en João Pessoa (Paraíba, Brasil). Nuestro objetivo es abrir un espacio de discusión para que las profesoras y los profesores analicen de cerca la teoría y la propuesta, de modo que encuentren formas de incorporar esta nueva técnica de lectura en su repertorio pedagógico.O presente artigo nos convida a explorar o desenvolvimento do mundo da leitura sob a ótica do letramento digital no século XXI. Com o advento da internet e da disseminação de (falsas) informações em massa, se torna cada vez mais necessário o olhar acadêmico com foco no desenvolvimento do pensamento crítico dentro das salas de aula. Desse modo, tecemos nossas reflexões a fim de aproximar o conceito de leitura lateral, um método de leitura contextualizado para o momento em que vivemos, do currículo da Educação Básica brasileira. Para tanto, exploramos uma proposta de ensino feita para alunos do oitavo e nono ano do ensino fundamental de uma escola pública de João Pessoa (PB).
