Resumo: This study presents a comparative analysis between the North American short story The Story of an Hour (1894), by Kate Chopin, and the Brazilian novel A Hora da Estrela (1977), by Clarice Lispector. The objective was to comparatively analyze the works, focusing on the constitution of the characters Mrs. Mallard and Macabéa in the narrative. The study is anchored in the theoretical assumptions of Comparative Literature (LC), addressed by Carvalhal (2006), as well as by the studies by Candido (2000,2002), Gancho (2002), Compagnon (2001) and Bakhtin (1997), with regard to literature and narrative structures. It was based on a qualitative/interpretative research Gil (1999), directed in the light of CL, exploring the excerpts of the narratives and presenting the necessary discussions. Furthermore, it is considered that this work results from literature as a humanizing function and that it contributes to comparative literary studies, uniting reflections from different cultures, countries and languages through the analysis of the literary text.

SciELO PreprintsSciELO PreprintsSciELO Preprints2023-10-19info:eu-repo/semantics/preprintinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/preprint/view/716810.1590/SciELOPreprints.7168porhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/article/view/7168/13495Copyright (c) 2023 Daryjane Pereira Costa, Meire Celedônio da Silva, Miriam Gurgelhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCosta, Daryjane PereiraSilva, Meire Celedônio daSilva, Miriam Gurgel dareponame:SciELO Preprintsinstname:Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO)instacron:SCI2023-10-13T17:16:34Zoai:ops.preprints.scielo.org:preprint/7168Servidor de preprintshttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scieloONGhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/oaiscielo.submission@scielo.orgopendoar:2023-10-13T17:16:34SciELO Preprints - Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO)false
