Exploring areas in Higher Education: An educational practice of Problem Solving

Resumo: This article aims to analyze implications of the Methodology Teaching-Learning-Evaluation of Mathematics through Problem Solving for the focus, in Numerical Calculus classes, on generalizing the formula for the area of trapezoids based on students' prior knowledge. For this purpose, the teaching approach through problem-solving and the methodology indicated in this research are initially discussed, characterized, in terms of nature, as applied; regarding the problem-solving approach, as qualitative; and concerning the procedures, as action research. Also presented are the context and organization of the educational practice, as well as the account and analysis of the developed problem. The application took place through remote classes, via video conferencing, allowing data collection involving video recordings. Academic records and the researcher's field diary were used to consolidate the research. The results indicate that the methodology enabled the development of students' autonomy, reasoning, and argumentation during the conducted educational practice.

Para ello, inicialmente se discute el enfoque de enseñanza a través de la resolución de problemas y la metodología indicada en esta investigación, caracterizándose, en cuanto a su naturaleza, como aplicada; en cuanto al enfoque del problema, como cualitativa; y en cuanto a los procedimientos, como investigación-acción. También se presentan el contexto y la organización de la práctica educativa, así como el relato y análisis del problema desarrollado. La aplicación se llevó a cabo a través de clases remotas, mediante videoconferencia, lo que permitió que la recopilación de datos incluyera grabaciones de video. Además, se utilizaron los registros académicos y el diario de campo del investigador para consolidar la investigación. Los resultados indican que la metodología permitió el desarrollo de la autonomía, el razonamiento y la argumentación de los estudiantes durante la práctica educativa realizada.Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar implicações da metodologia de Ensino-Aprendizagem-Avaliação de Matemática através da Resolução de Problemas para o enfoque, em aulas de Cálculo Numérico, na generalização da fórmula da área de trapézios a partir dos conhecimentos prévios dos estudantes. Para tanto, inicialmente discute-se a abordagem de ensino através da resolução de problemas e a metodologia indicada nesta pesquisa, caracterizando-se, quanto à natureza, como aplicada; em relação à abordagem do problema, como qualitativa; e no que diz respeito aos procedimentos, como investigação-ação. Também se apresentam o contexto e a organização da prática educativa, bem como o relato e a análise do problema desenvolvido. A aplicação aconteceu por meio de aulas remotas, via videoconferência, o que possibilitou que a coleta de dados envolvesse gravações de vídeo, além de serem utilizados os registros dos acadêmicos e diário de campo do pesquisador para a consolidação da pesquisa.
