Resumo: The application of evidence based medicine in the practice of occupational medicine is essential to assess the accuracy, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of any health technologies implemented by the occupational health program. In this opinion article, the authors reflect upon the use of imaging tests for early detection of workers at higher risk of illness due to low back pain associated with medical recommendations to not work in activities with higher biomechanical risk of back pain. The limitations of this practice are discussed through basic concepts of epidemiology and data gathered preferably by systematic reviews.

SciELO PreprintsSciELO PreprintsSciELO Preprints2022-10-25info:eu-repo/semantics/preprintinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/preprint/view/490610.1590/SciELOPreprints.4906porhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/article/view/4906/9532Copyright (c) 2022 Eduardo Myung, Alexander Buarquehttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMyung, EduardoBuarque, Alexanderreponame:SciELO Preprintsinstname:SciELOinstacron:SCI2022-10-23T13:42:40Zoai:ops.preprints.scielo.org:preprint/4906Servidor de preprintshttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scieloONGhttps://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/oaiscielo.submission@scielo.orgopendoar:2022-10-23T13:42:40SciELO Preprints - SciELOfalse
