THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD UPBRINGING IN CHILDHOOD FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF ALEXANDRE DE GUSMÃO

Resumo: In this article, we aim to identify and analyze the concept of Jesuit education present in the work "Arte de crear bem os filhos na idade da puericia: dedicada ao minino de belém jesu nazareno", published in 1685 by Jesuit Father Alexandre de Gusmão. To achieve these goals, it was necessary to understand the historical and religious context in which he was educated as a member of the Society of Jesus, especially regarding educational matters. Regarding the analysis of the book published at the end of the 17th century, it focused on identifying key elements that constituted an ideal pedagogical approach for effectively raising children during their childhood, taking into account Christianity's core values. Gusmão considered this stage essential for an individual's spiritual success in worldly life - ultimately impacting one's chances for salvation. In addition, this article presents an analysis of other elements present in Alexandre de Gusmão's work, namely abandoned and orphaned children; the role of mothers in raising sons and daughters; and the issue of physical punishment. The study of such documentation allows us to delve deeper into important aspects of education history during colonial Brazil, helping students and researchers better understand the historical process of educational development.

The study of such documentation allows us to delve deeper into important aspects of education history during colonial Brazil, helping students and researchers better understand the historical process of educational development.En el presente artículo, nuestro objetivo es identificar y analizar el concepto de educación jesuita presente en la obra “Arte de crear bem os filhos na idade da puericia: dedicada ao minino de belém jesu nazareno”, publicada en 1685 por el padre jesuita Alexandre de Gusmão. Para lograr este objetivo, fue necesario comprender el panorama histórico y religioso en el que se enmarca la perspectiva ignaciana, considerando el contexto de su formación sacerdotal y su posterior participación como miembro de la Compañía de Jesús, especialmente en el ámbito educativo. En cuanto al análisis del libro publicado a finales del siglo XVII, este se centró en identificar los principales elementos constituyentes del ideario pedagógico de una buena crianza durante la mencionada fase de la infancia, teniendo en cuenta los valores fundamentales de la religiosidad cristiana. Gusmão atribuye esta etapa de la vida como esencial para el éxito espiritual del individuo en el mundo secular, una condición determinante para la posterior salvación del alma. Además, este artículo presenta un análisis de otros elementos presentes en la obra de Alexandre de Gusmão, a saber: los niños abandonados y los huérfanos; el papel de las madres en la crianza de los hijos e hijas; y la cuestión de los castigos corporales. El estudio de esta documentación nos permite profundizar en aspectos significativos de la historia de la educación durante el período colonial brasileño, ayudando a estudiantes e investigadores a comprender el proceso histórico de desarrollo educativo.No presente artigo, objetivamos identificar e analisar o conceito de educação jesuítica presente na obra “Arte de crear bem os filhos na idade da puericia: dedicada ao minino de belém jesu nazareno”, publicada no ano de 1685 pelo padre jesuíta Alexandre de Gusmão. Para tais finalidades, foi necessário a compreensão do panorama histórico e religioso no qual se insere o inaciano, considerando o contexto de sua formação sacerdotal e, posteriormente, sua atuação como membro da Companhia de Jesus, sobretudo no que tange ao âmbito educacional. No que concerne a análise do livro publicado no final do século XVII, esta girou em torno da busca dos principais elementos constituintes do ideário pedagógico da boa criação na dita idade da puerícia, levando em conta os principais valores da religiosidade cristã. Gusmão atribui essa etapa da vida como essencial para o sucesso espiritual do indivíduo na vida mundana, condição determinante para a posterior salvação da alma. Além disso, este artigo apresenta a análise de outros elementos presentes na obra de Alexandre de Gusmão, a saber: os enjeitados e os órfãos; o papel das mães na criação dos filhos e das filhas; e a questão dos castigos corporais.
