READING IMAGES, CONCEPTUAL MAPS AND SCIENCE TEXTBOOKS: LITERATURE REVIEW

Resumo: The present work intends to investigate to what extent the integrated use of conceptual maps in association with the Grammar of Visual Design is addressed in academic works, for reading images in Science textbooks. This study consists of a literature review developed from the BUSCAd digital tool, whose time frame is centered on the last ten years, that is, from 2014 to June 2023. Through Discursive Textual Analysis, initial categories were drawn, with greater emphasis on those that deal with aspects related to reading and interpretation of images, the integrated use of multimodal texts in textbooks and the adoption of the Grammar of Visual Design for the analysis of images. It was also possible to group the initial categories into three large groups of multiliteracies: visual, digital and critical. The results reveal that the theme is explored in a very timid way in Science teaching at national and international level, therefore, it constitutes a fruitful field for future research focused on visual literacy, with emphasis on investigations about the multimodal reading of images in Science textbooks.

Este estudio consiste en una revisión de literatura desarrollada a partir de la herramienta digital BUSCAd, cuyo marco temporal se centra en los últimos diez años, es decir, desde 2014 hasta junio de 2023. A través del Análisis Textual Discursivo, se delinearon categorías iniciales, con mayor énfasis en aquellas que versan sobre aspectos relacionados con la lectura e interpretación de imágenes, el uso integrado de textos multimodales en los libros de texto y la adopción de la Gramática del Diseño Visual para el análisis de imágenes. También fue posible agrupar las categorías iniciales en tres grandes grupos de multialfabetizaciones: visual, digital y crítica. Los resultados revelan que el tema es explorado de manera muy tímida en la enseñanza de Ciencias a nivel nacional e internacional, por lo tanto, constituye un campo fructífero para futuras investigaciones enfocadas en la alfabetización visual, con énfasis en investigaciones sobre la lectura multimodal de imágenes en libros de texto de Ciencias.O presente trabalho pretende investigar em que medida o uso integrado de mapas conceituais, em associação com a Gramática do Design Visual, é abordado em trabalhos acadêmicos, para a leitura de imagens em livros didáticos de Ciências. Tal estudo consiste em uma revisão de literatura desenvolvida a partir da ferramenta digital BUSCAd, cujo recorte temporal está centrado nos últimos dez anos, ou seja, de 2014 até junho de 2023. Por meio da Análise Textual Discursiva traçaram-se categorias iniciais, com maior destaque para aquelas que tratam de aspectos relacionados à leitura e interpretação de imagens, ao uso integrado de textos multimodais em livros didáticos e sobre a adoção da Gramática do Design Visual para a análise de imagens. Foi possível, ainda, agrupar as categorias iniciais em três grandes grupos de multiletramentos: visual, digital e crítico.
