THE INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE AND TEACHER TRAINING ON STUDENT PERFORMANCE IN THE FIELD OF NATURAL SCIENCES

Resumo: This study investigates the performance of students from Brazilian state public schools in the area of Natural Sciences , in the 2017 ENEM. Student performance was compared between different types of schools and between urban and rural schools and evaluated the factors that may cause these differences. The influence of school infrastructure, proportion of teachers trained in the area of Natural Sciences and teacher qualification on student performance was evaluated. Student performance varied with the type of school attended and between rural and urban schools. Among the factors evaluated, school infrastructure was the most important factor in student performance, followed by the proportion of teachers working in their respective areas of training and the qualification of teachers.

Se comparó el desempeño de los estudiantes entre diferentes tipos de escuelas y entre escuelas urbanas y rurales y se evaluaron los factores que pueden causar estas diferencias. Se evaluó la influencia de la infraestructura escolar, la proporción de docentes capacitados en el área de Ciencias Naturales y la calificación docente en el desempeño de los estudiantes. El desempeño de los estudiantes varió con el tipo de escuela a la que asistieron y entre las escuelas rurales y urbanas. Entre los factores evaluados, la infraestructura escolar fue el factor más importante en el desempeño de los estudiantes, seguido por la proporción de docentes que trabajan en sus respectivas áreas de formación y la calificación de los docentes.Este estudo investiga o desempenho de escolas públicas estaduais brasileiras na área de Ciências da Natureza, no ENEM 2017. O desempenho dos alunos foi comparado entre os diferentes tipos de escolas públicas estaduais brasileiras e as taxas de seleção que podem causar diferenças. Foi avaliada a infraestrutura escolar, proporção de professores formados na área de Ciências Naturais e qualificação docente no desempenho dos alunos. O desempenho dos alunos variou com o tipo de escola frequentada e entre escolas rurais e urbanas.
