Resumo: Due to such a great complexity that involves or topic on cloth and research that appoints for recurrent errors regarding decisions made by researchers related to options for research approaches, or essay on cloth presents a strictly bibliographic study that you will revisit and reflect on pertinent decisions. of researchers on their options for quantitative or qualitative approaches, aiming to respond to the following research question: Inserting numerical data by means of graphs, tables and other forms of representation, guaranteeing yes, that a research is classified as qualitative? Methodologically it deals with a theoretical study, presented by means of the academic genre in the essay, guided by relevant literature. In this sense or article it is proposed to carry out a dialogue on the subject as a basis on some consecrated theorists, especially seeking to focus on areas of science and education in Brazil, and thus discuss and clarify that the option for the type of approach it is a holistic choice and should not be reduced to options by the research method, whether quantitative or qualitative, aiming to indicate ways to improve the quality of research in the area. Keywords: Qualitative Research; Quantitative research; Methods; Types of Approach.Diante de tamanha complexidade que envolve o tema em tela e pesquisas que apontam para erros recorrentes referentes às decisões tomadas por pesquisadores relacionadas às opções pelas abordagens de pesquisa, o ensaio em tela apresenta um estudo estritamente bibliográfico que visou revisitar e refletir a respeito de compreensões atinentes às decisões de pesquisadores quanto as suas opções por abordagens quantitativas ou abordagens qualitativas, objetivando responder a seguinte questão de pesquisa: A inserção de dados numéricos por meio de gráficos, tabela e outras formas de representação garantem em si, que seja uma pesquisa classificada como quantitativa? Metodologicamente trata-se de um estudo teórico, apresentado por meio do gênero acadêmico ensaio, pautado em incursões na literatura pertinente. Neste sentido o artigo se propôs a realizar um diálogo do tema, tomando como base alguns teóricos consagrados, em especial buscando focar nas áreas de ensino de ciências e educação no âmbito do Brasil, e assim, discutir e esclarecer que a opção pelo tipo de abordagem é uma escolha holística e que não deve ser reduzida às opções pelo método de pesquisa, se quantitativo ou qualitativo, visando indicar caminhos para melhorar a qualidade da pesquisa na área.
