Resumo: | The taboo of death persists in our society and although, every day, between concealment and spectacle, more people die, we fail to reflect on this inexorable part of life. This study offers an understanding of the experience of death from a phenomenological-existential perspective, taking the lyrics of Brazilian songs as its units of analysis. Guided by the writings of Kierkegaard, Heidegger, and Sartre, Lanigan’s semiotic phenomenology was used in an analysis to produce understanding via emerging themes (essences) from the lyrics of 20 songs. The themes extracted were: cruelty, helplessness, heroism, unpredictability, perpetual motion, mutilation and vulnerability. This phenomenological understanding highlighted the permanence of life as “death that never dies” in the human stories, as well the paradox of death as from a phenomenological viewpoint on authenticity and inauthenticity. This study is intended to serve as fuel for thought and to assist health personnel in approaching the subject of death with patients beyond the reach of curative therapy (in palliative care) and bereaved families. |

Sociedade de Estudos e Pesquisas Qualitativos - SE&PQ2022-12-13info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://editora.sepq.org.br/rpq/article/view/44810.33361/RPQ.2022.v.10.n.25.448Qualitative Research Journal ; Vol. 10 No. 25 (2022): Setembro/Dezembro: Publicação Contínua; 425-449Revista Pesquisa Qualitativa; v. 10 n. 25 (2022): Setembro/Dezembro: Publicação Contínua; 425-4492525-82221809-025710.33361/RPQ.v.10.n.25reponame:Revista Pesquisa Qualitativa (Online)instname:Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos e Pesquisa Qualitativos (SE&PQ)instacron:SE&PQporhttps://editora.sepq.org.br/rpq/article/view/448/338Copyright (c) 2022 Revista Pesquisa Qualitativahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMoreno, Arlinda2022-12-20T20:08:20Zoai:editora.sepq.org.br:article/448Revistahttps://editora.sepq.org.br/index.php/rpq/indexONGhttps://editora.sepq.org.br/index.php/rpq/oai||revista.rpq@gmail.com2525-82221809-0257opendoar:2022-12-20T20:08:20Revista Pesquisa Qualitativa (Online) - Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos e Pesquisa Qualitativos (SE&PQ)false |
