Experience of settling in and acculturation in qualitative research during the COVID-19 pandemic

Resumo: Among the impacts caused by the pandemic, the challenges faced for scientific progress stand out, especially in the methodological stages of qualitative research. This study aimed to report the experience of settling in and acculturation as a preliminary stage of clinical-qualitative research with families of children with cleft lip and/or palate during the COVID-19 pandemic. The methodological approach comprised the description of strategies for adaptation and acculturation, which occurred from the contact with health professionals and family members in a specialized center for the treatment of cleft lip and/or palate. The virtual experience and potential of adaptation and acculturation in clinical-qualitative research during the pandemic emerged as reflective categories of the experience. Information technologies that contemplated the need for research, method and population involved were used. Thus, the adaptation to the emergency scenario proposes innovation in research, especially qualitative, in order to promote scientific development, even in non-face-to-face contexts.

Objetivou-se relatar a experiência de ambiência e aculturação como etapa preliminar da pesquisa clínico-qualitativa com famílias de crianças com fissuras labial e/ou palatina, durante a pandemia da COVID-19. O percurso metodológico envolveu a descrição de estratégias para ambientação e aculturação, que ocorreu a partir do contato com os profissionais de saúde e familiares em centro especializado para tratamento de fissuras labial e/ou palatina. A experiência virtual e as potencialidades da ambiência e aculturação na pesquisa clínico-qualitativa no decurso da pandemia surgiram como categorias reflexivas da vivência. Utilizaram-se das tecnologias de informação que contemplaram a necessidade da pesquisa, método e população envolvida.
